“…The present study is limited by its retrospective nature and small sample size; however, it supports findings reported by other authors and expands upon evidence for folliculocentric hypersensitivity reactions being a unique clinicopathologic entity 2,3,5,7,8 . Our cohort centered on the diagnosis of CLL/SLL, but it should be noted that similar cutaneous eruptions have been reported in various other hematologic malignancies, HIV, and agammaglobulinemia 18,19 . Further studies are warranted to determine whether there might be related pathogenesis between these entities.…”

“…Interestingly, “exaggerated insect bite reactions” have been described in patients positive for human immunodeficiency virus and patients with congenital agammaglobulinemia and have therefore been linked to the first description of Weed who coined this term in CLL patients . Having a closer look at these publications, however, in all these patients “true” insect bites are reported which clearly differentiates these conditions from ED. In contrast in ED, insect bites are no longer thought to be causative .…”

“…There is clinical evidence that the underlying malignancy is causative for ED because this reaction has not been described in nonmalignant conditions and healthy people . Interestingly, “exaggerated insect bite reactions” have been described in patients positive for human immunodeficiency virus and patients with congenital agammaglobulinemia and have therefore been linked to the first description of Weed who coined this term in CLL patients .
