Inorganic pharmaceuticals

Abstract: This chapter reviews the literature reported during 2007 on some important advances in the area of inorganic pharmaceuticals. Research highlights for the respective metals during the year are also given. HighlightsThe main highlights include (i) dodecaborate-conjugated cholesterol liposome having toxicity of 25 ppm of boron concentration towards colon 26 cells, 43 (ii) the bactericidal action of Al 2 O 3 , Ag/Al 2 O 3 and AgCl/Al 2 O 3 on Escherichia coli K 12, 45 (iii) bis(a-furancarboxylato)oxovanadium(IV) a… Show more

“…Although Ni complexes have been investigated as anticancer agents,72 only a few investigations consider photoactivity;73 for example, [Ni(bpy) 2 (benzo[1.8]naphthyridinone-2-ol)](PF 6 ) 2 binds to DNA in the absence of irradiation, and upon irradiation (λ irr 365 nm) photocleaves the DNA through a mechanism involving both 1 O 2 and HO• radicals 74…”

“…During the last years several studies on palladium compounds described the antiproliferative action of these complexes against tumor cell lines [6][7][8][9][10][11]. Despite its toxicity, arsenic is known as inorganic pharmaceutical [30]. A significant biological activity was observed for As(III) [31], noteworthy are several compounds, which have affinity to protein thiols.…”
