Innovative Substrate Technology for High Performance Heavy Duty Truck SCR Catalyst Systems

Abstract: Diesel engine emissions regulations throughout the world have changed dramatically over the last 20 years, with the most stringent phase for medium/heavy duty being implemented starting 2007 -2010. The general perception is, that combination systems including PM reduction devices and NOx aftertreatment, likely SCR will be applied, hence significant additional emissions equipment will need to be added to a diesel engine. The consequences of this will be increased space for packaging and increased cost, to meet … Show more

“…Julie M Pardiwala et al [5] shows limited availability, cost and some working conditions have propelled the research on alternate catalyst material. Michael Rice et al [6] shows the rules and laws with regard to emission from the diesel engine that have changed in the last two decades along with the ways to reduce exhaust emission using SCR combined with soot filter. Yisun cheng et al [7] illustrates concerns regarding sulphur poisoning in the system incorporating Diesel Oxidation Catalyst for applications of diesel engine ahead of Cu/Zeolite Selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst.…”

“…Utilisation of a swirl blade configuration before the monolith [21,22] has shown promising results with slight improvement in catalytic converter efficiency. Employing corrugated metallic foils with internal holes [23,24] is another approach, however the cost of metallic substrates and complexity of wash coating are the main concerns associated with this class of substrates [25].…”
