Auf der Schwäbischen Alb wurde eine ältere Fußgängerbrücke aus Stahlbeton durch eine neue Brücke aus Textilbeton ersetzt, die durch die Kombination von textilbewehrtem Beton und einer Vorspannung ohne Verbund eine außergewöhnliche Schlankheit erreicht. Bei einer Betondeckung von nur 1,5 cm für die Bewehrung aus technischen Textilien war ein im Vergleich zu Stahlbetonbauteilen ungewöhnlich filigraner mehrstegiger Plattenbalkenquerschnitt als Überbau ausführbar. In dem vorliegenden Beitrag werden Untersuchungen zu den Werkstoffen, zum Tragverhalten und zur Dauerhaftigkeit vorgestellt. Das Tragwerk, die Bemessung und Konstruktion sowie insbesondere das Schwingungsverhalten sind Gegenstand eines separaten Beitrags in diesem Heft.Load‐Bearing Behavior and Durability of a Slender Textile Reinforced Concrete BridgeAn older pedestrian bridge was replaced by a new bridge made of textile reinforced concrete (TRC) in Southern Germany. A remarkable slenderness was achieved by using a combination of TRC and an unbounded prestressing. The concrete cover of only 1,5 cm makes it possible to design an uncommonly slender Tbeam with seven webs and which is used as superstructure. The article deals with the experimental investigations of the material properties, load‐bearing behaviour and durability. The design and construction, especially the dynamic behaviour, of the bearing structure is described in a separate article in this issue.

In civil engineering, carbon is typically regarded as a modern material to serve as reinforcement in concrete structures. Compared to steel reinforcement, it features two substantial benefits: It is not sensitive to corrosion, and has an enormously increased tensile strength. In contrast, carbon reinforcement is sensitive to lateral pressure and lacks the property of strain hardening. As a first step of establishing carbon reinforced concrete as a new building composite material, carbon reinforcement has basically served to replace the state‐of‐the‐art steel reinforcement. This target led to pioneering findings with respect to determining the material properties of the composite and developing advanced individual components. However, barely substituting steel by carbon does not allow to fully utilise the carbon's benefits while its disadvantageous properties reveal the limits of this approach. Instead, novel design principles are required to meet the material's nature aiming at appropriately using its beneficial properties.Currently, new construction principles are being researched for high‐performance building material combinations such as textile and carbon reinforced concrete. This paper provides an overview of baselines in the preliminary stages of this research. The overview includes history, inspiration, concrete matrices, non‐metallic reinforcement, structural elements, modelling, production, tomography, and sustainability. The objective of the study is to provide a baseline for the envisaged development of principles for future construction: radically new concepts for the design, modelling, construction, manufacturing, and use of sustainable, resource‐efficient building elements made of mineral building materials with the aim of entirely benefiting from the materials’ potential.This article is protected by copyright. A Detailed Numerical Model for a New Composite Slim-Floor Slab System

The paper concerns the numerical modelling of a new slim-floor system with innovative steel–concrete composite beams called “hybrid beams”. Hybrid beams consist of a high-strength TT inverted cross-section steel profile and a concrete core made of high-performance concrete and are jointed with prestressed hollow core slabs by infill concrete and tie reinforcement. Such systems are gaining popularity since they allow the integration of the main structural members within the ceiling depth, shorten the execution time, and reduce the use of concrete and steel. A three-dimensional finite element model is proposed with all parts of the system taken into account and detailed geometry reproduction. Advanced constitutive models are adopted for steel and concrete. Special attention is paid to the proper characterisation of interfaces. The new approach to calibration of damaged elastic traction–separation constitutive model for cohesive elements is applied to concrete-to-concrete contact zones. The model is validated with outcomes of experimental field tests and analytical calculations. A satisfactory agreement between different assessment methods is obtained. The model can be used in the development phase of a new construction system, for instance, to plan further experimental campaigns or to calibrate simplified design formulas.
