Abstract:Operating a business in the context of current environmental challenges requires managers to shift away from the management model focused solely on the achievement of economic goals. In this situation, pro-ecological (green) initiatives, in particular those that are innovative, are gaining significance. These measures allow for the mitigation and/or elimination of the environmental pollution while generating at the same time certain benefits for the companies implementing them, which is reflected in the improv… Show more
“…In order to develop sustainable competitive edge, firms have to engage themselves in innovative and green initiatives (Wysocki, 2021). Many studies reported the existence of positive association between business performance and environmental concerns in relation to Martínez-del-Río, 2008;López-Gamero, Claver-Cortés, & Molina-Azorín, 2008).…”
Green concern is making a profound impact on building green competitive advantage (GCA) across the globe. Apparel sector of Bangladesh is at crossroads regarding sustainability of firms. Green initiatives are thus required for ensuring the survival of apparel sector. The current study attempts to examine the interplay among environmental corporate social responsibility (ECSR) dimensions, green corporate image (GCI), and green competitive advantage of firms. To address the research topic, structural equation modeling approach has been adopted. Based on prior research findings, five hypotheses have been devised and finally evaluated by collecting data from 53 apparel firms enlisted with Dhaka Stock Exchange, Bangladesh. The study findings reveal that the ECSR dimensions have critical role to play over building GCI and GCA at the firm level. The study attempted to integrate ECSR, GCI, and GCA and contributes to the holistic understanding of the green anxieties of the business world. Understanding the critical role of ECSR, this study calls for proactive managerial actions regarding organizational sustainability.

“…In terms of job creation, no difference was found between SMEs with an innovation label and those that also with environmental indicators. Based on the results obtained in other studies, when innovation and environmental sensitivity and/or orientation are treated together, the results do not coincide [104,105,[110][111][112].…”

“…Sanchez-Medina et al [110] have investigated 168 Mexican small artisanal firms, and conclude that there is a positive relationship between eco-innovation and the three dimensions of sustainability, economic, social and environmental, adding that "the factors that best explain sustainability are: type of organization, product innovation and process innovation". Empirical research, conducted on a sample of 342 SME manufacturing companies operating in Poland, allows concluding that innovative green initiatives undertaken not only combine environmental objectives with economic ones, but also bring quantifiable benefits to the implementers in parallel to maintaining environmental safety [111]. These green innovations (save energy, prevent pollution or enable waste recycling) do not always translate into higher levels of financial performance.…”

1. Background. It is well-known that innovation contributes to economic growth, improves productivity and enables competitive advantage. However, beyond these matters, it would be of interest to know what role innovation plays in relation to sustainability. This paper focuses on whether innovation is a driver of sustainability in its three dimensions: social, economic and environmental. 2. Methods. The study was conducted with companies in the Valencian community (Spain) to analyze whether they significantly contribute to sustainability as innovators. Economical sustainability was assessed based on economic and financial profitability; social sustainability was assessed by employment generation. To determine whether companies contributed to environmental sustainability, we considered those which, apart from a reputation (“label”) in innovation, had some kind of environmental certification. 3. Results. Our results indicate that innovative companies are more profitable and generate more employment. However, there are no differences in terms of performance and employment generation between innovative companies and those that are also environmentally sensitive. 4. Conclusion. Innovation is a driving force of economic and social sustainability in the studied area, but environmental sensitivity is not a driver for economic and social sustainability.
“…MEC Koszalin currently has one coal-fired boiler adapted for co-firing biomass in the amount of 10% of the total fuel per year. However, in order to take advantage of the opportunities offered by this boiler, it is imperative that the bag filters are protected from damage first [110,111].…”

This paper presents problems connected with the effects of pro-ecological investment on the example of the heating industry. The aim of the publication, resulting from the identified gap, is to analyze pro-ecological investments on the example of a Polish heating company—Miejska Energetyka Cieplna Ltd. in Koszalin. In particular, the pro-environmental activities in which the examined company engaged over the period 2017–2020 were analyzed. On the basis of existing models in the literature, the authors’ cause–effect model for analyzing pro-ecological investments was proposed and investments were realized by the analyzed organization using this model. Combining the presented causes and effects of ecological investments, it is possible to propose a cause–effect model of pro-ecological investments undertaken in organizations consisting of three causes and five effects. All causes that cause organizations to realize pro-ecological investments can be divided into three groups: low requirements, economical requirements, and image requirements, all of which lead to the implementation of environmental corporate social responsibility.
