Purpose The purpose of this paper is twofold: first, to investigate the effects of the digitalization process on the demand and supply side in the sports world through the advent of mobile apps and online services, such as YouTube, which provide free (or almost) real fitness courses; and second, to investigate how technological innovation is managed in the sports sector. Design/methodology/approach Drawing on a survey research approach, this study collected 150 questionnaires from consumers in the North of Italy. Findings Based on a descriptive analysis of the data, the findings show that the digital channel becomes significant at an exponential rate and takes on a leading role in today’s era, especially among young people. However, the results also show that the traditional channel of use of the sports service (gyms/fitness centers) is privileged by consumers under the age of 35, even though there is a weak penetration of innovative tools offered by the innovation technology (mobile app and video tutorials on social networks such as YouTube) in the sports sector. Practical implications The study provides an exhaustive overview of academic literature on technology and innovation management, and provides the contact point between the physical and digital world in the sports sector, and adds a significant scholarly and practical value in the exercise at home perspective of consumers. This research also contributes to the discussion on the competitiveness between the two channels (physical and digital one) in the sports sector, thus giving rise to further research concerning the offer of the type of sports service. Originality/value This study is among the few that connect the technological advancements and management within the sports industry and provides the ground and theoretical basis for the scholar community to further build on.

Taking outdoor sports tourism in Hubei Province as the research objective, this paper discusses the connotation, characteristics and industry development trend of outdoor sports tourism, and summarizes the relationship between them as: sports is an important resource for the development of tourism industry, and tourism is an important driving force for the promotion of sports industry. On the basis of in-depth investigation, this paper analyses the problems existing in the development of outdoor sports tourism in China. This paper analyses the advantages of developing outdoor sports tourism in Hubei Province from three aspects: natural resources, human resources and social environment. At the same time, it also analyses the main factors that restrict the development of outdoor sports tourism in Hubei Province. On this basis, by means of expert interviews, on-site research and other methods, the paper puts forward eight countermeasures and suggestions for the development of outdoor sports tourism in Hubei Province, aiming at promoting the development of outdoor sports tourism in Hubei Province and the construction of healthy Hubei Province, and showing the world the beautiful card of outdoor sports tourism of Hubei.

The course of outdoor sports is one of the important curriculums of physical education department and specialty, which has strong practical characteristics. Taking the outdoor sports talents training of physical education specialty of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) as the research object, this paper uses the methods of documentation, questionnaire survey, field investigation and case analysis, and combines the content and characteristics of outdoor sports practice teaching courses in colleges and universities of Hubei Province, explores the construction idea of "base group" of outdoor sports practice teaching. Starting from the training goal of coordinated development of knowledge, technique and skills of sports professionals, the "base group" of outdoor sports practice teaching is constructed according to different regions, projects, times and groups of people. The paper discusses the innovation construction system of "base group" composed of five subsystems including target, curriculum, management, guarantee and the evaluation of practice teaching. The "five-in-one" practicing base group evaluation system of outdoor sports is probed, aiming at the cultivating of outdoor sports professionals who satisfy the social requirements, meet the characteristics of students' development, and possess the theoretical skills and practical abilities.
