Show more

“…The method used to evaluate the MNT was based on the paucity of studies with mechanical models to assess the effects of amantadine in dogs. Despite not having been studied in dogs, this method has been used to determine the sensitivity with relative safety and reproducibility in horses (Rédua et al 2002;Oleoskovicz et al, 2006;Guirro et al, 2009) and in rats (Moura et al 2015;Cunha et al 2004).…”

“…In other moments when there was a difference between the groups of two drugs, it was possible to observe that, when using the lower doses of detomidine, the nose-ground distance was similar to that observed with the greater doses of xylazine, showing that detomidine resulted in a more intense sedation due to its greater selectivity regarding adrenoceptors when compared to xylazine (Hubbell et al, 2012). Xylazine has a selectivity ratio of 160 (Guirro et al, 2009) and detomidine of 260 (Fischer et al, 2009) between α-2/α-1 receptors, thus detomidine has similar action to xylazine, but with ten times the potency and longer lasting effects (Hubbell et al, 2012). a, b = different letters indicate a significant difference between groups (p<0.05).…”
