“…Unless the course of events in Triticum differs markedly from that observed in Dactylis, Secale and Lolium (Hitch and Sharman 1968), all the early procambial strands, including the original two of the prophyll, are initiated independently of the vascular system of the parent axis and later (but still very early in the life of the bud) make connection with this by backward initiation.
