“…Most cases of inguinal ovary have been reported in pediatric patients with other genital tract anomalies [ 1 ]. Inguinal ovaries in adult women are rarely reported; in fact, only 12 cases were identified in a recent review article [ 6 ]. In a retrospective review of 1,950 cases of inguinal hernia, ovaries and fallopian tubes accounted for 2.9% of the unusual contents of hernia sacs [ 2 ].…”

“…Inguinal hernia containing ovary is generally found in paediatric population as groin swellings, that accounts for 6-7% of inguinal hernias in this age group. 9,10,11 In one series by Ein et al, the incidence in more than 1000 females was 15% but 76% were younger than 2 years. 12 Almost 30% of all reported cases are related to adolescents or women of reproductive age.…”

“…The reproductive systems of both females and males share the same steps in the early uterine development. Understanding this fact may help understanding the mechanism of the ovarian herniation through the inguinal canal [6]. The pathophysiology of the development of sliding inguinal hernias of ovary and fallopian tube in female is thought to be a homologous to the normal physiology of the testis descent in male [1].…”
