This research aims to explore the role of social media as aids for accounting education and how people use social media to share accounting knowledge. We use the 5E Learning Model and the Knowledge Management (KM) Processes Model to investigate this issue using qualitative research methods and interviews. Our findings indicate that accounting practitioners and learners discovered knowledge through previous classrooms and exchanges between colleagues in knowledge discovery. In sharing knowledge, they shared their experiences by freely publishing posts, testing cognition, and interacting and communicating. In knowledge capture, learners capture knowledge by viewing online courses, using social media to contact accounting practitioners, learning from others’ experiences, and posting questions. In knowledge application, learners apply knowledge in examinations, internships, work guidance, error avoidance, and daily fund management. We also discovered that accounting practitioners and learners have different attitudes toward the issue of knowledge payment. We put forward suggestions for establishing accounting forums and groups on social media. Accounting practitioners should be willing to share knowledge, and accounting learners should gain knowledge through interaction. The public should use social media to know more about the profession and gain basic accounting knowledge to facilitate daily living.

Purpose Fish quarantine is a measure to prevent the entry and spread of quarantine fish pests and diseases abroad and from one area to another within Indonesia's territory. Based on these backgrounds, this study aims to identify the knowledge, knowledge management (KM) processes and knowledge management system (KMS) priority needs for quarantine fish and other fishery products measures (QMFFP) and then develop a classification model and web-based decision support system (DSS) for QMFFP decisions. Design/methodology/approach This research methodology uses combination approaches, namely, contingency factor analysis (CFA), the cross-industry standard process for data mining (CRISP-DM) and knowledge management system development life cycle (KMSDLC). The CFA for KM solution design is performed by identifying KM processes and KMS priorities. The CRISP-DM for decision classification model is done by using a decision tree algorithm. The KMSDLC is used to develop a web-based DSS. Findings The highest priority requirements of KM technology for QMFFP are data mining and DSS with predictive features. The main finding of this study is to show that web-based DSS (functions and outputs) can support and accelerate QMFFP decisions by regulations and field practice needs. The DSS was developed using the CTree algorithm model, which has six main attributes and eight rules. Originality/value This study proposes a novel comprehensive framework for developing DSS (combination of CFA, CRISP-DM and KMSDLC), a novel classification model resulting from comparing two decision tree algorithms and a novel web-based DSS for QMFFP.

With the deployment of information and communication technologies (ICTs) and the needs of data and information sharing within cities, smart city aims to provide value-added services to improve citizens’ quality of life. But, currently city planners/developers are faced with inadequate contextual information on the dimensions of smart city required to achieve a sustainable society. Therefore, in achieving sustainable society, there is need for stakeholders to make strategic decisions on how to implement smart city initiatives. Besides, it is required to specify the smart city dimensions to be adopted in making cities smarter for sustainability attainment. But, only a few methods such as big data, internet of things, cloud computing, etc. have been employed to support smart city attainment. Thus, this study integrates case-based reasoning (CBR) as an artificial intelligence technique to develop a recommender system towards promoting smart city planning. CBR provides suggestions on smart city dimensions to be adopted by city planners/decision-makers in making cities smarter and sustainable. Accordingly, survey data were collected from 115 respondents to evaluate the applicability of the implemented CBR recommender system in relation to how the system provides best practice recommendations and retaining of smart city initiatives. Results from descriptive and exploratory factor analyses suggest that the developed system is applicable in supporting smart city adoption. Besides, findings from this study are expected to provide valuable insights for practitioners to develop more practical strategies and for researchers to better understand smart city dimensions.
