Population growth at a global level implies an increase in energy consumption by the population. This increase is expected in urban agglomerations composed of residences. The production of energy in the residential area has been discussed when talking about selfsufficiency and clean and sustainable energy. An aggravating factor in the context of forms of energy generation is the great impact of burning fossil fuels that release polluting gases when producing electricity. The present study sought to discuss, based on the literature, the use of photovoltaic panels in the generation of clean energy in homes as an alternative to conventional means. Therefore, the methodology used was based on the search for scientific studies in databases about the proposed theme. A bibliographic survey was carried out in order to obtain studies that would support the research. Studies in the databases Periódicos CAPES, Scholar Google and Scopus were found and selected based on certain criteria. Therefore, it was found that the use of photovoltaic panels in the generation of energy for homes is promising in reducing other energy sources. Several studies show the viability of this type of energy in homes in Brazil, which has a large availability of daily sunlight for its operation. However, the technology in question still has a high implementation cost, which may decrease with government incentives and a decrease in the values of its components. In addition, the use of solar energy compared to conventional means of energy generation has a compensatory value with its long-term use.

This paper aims to analyze the photovoltaic electricity energy expansion and recent data about the behavior of the CO2 emissions in Brazil and other selected countries. Data were collected from different bases as International Energy Agency (Agência Internacional de Energia), Ministry of Energy and Mines (Ministério de Minas e Energia), Research Electric Company as well as other papers in the field. Kaya Identity was applied as basis in order to evaluate the CO2 emissions. As a result, it could be seen a clear domain of Germany and Italy in the photovoltaic generation sector, with high investments in the development and dissemination of that technology. Brazil presented an energetic matrix of low carbon but with a tendency to increase emissions per capita throughout the years. The effect of decoupling between the greenhouse gas emissions and the large-scale economic development was checked. It was realized that that phenomenon tends to intensify it since renewable energy technologies get higher levels of use.

Os sistemas fotovoltaicos integrados à edificação (BIPV) são alternativas sustentáveis para a redução da demanda energética, por apresentar vantagens como a possibilidade de substituição dos tradicionais elementos construtivos. Este trabalho tem como objetivo avaliar a viabilidade de utilização de sistemas BIPV em substituição a materiais de acabamento, na fase de construção, de habitações uni e multifamiliares com sistemas de condicionamento artificial, na região Sudeste. Foram simulados no EnergyPlus 64 modelos, sendo 8 modelos residenciais (5 edifícios multifamiliares verticais e 3 unifamiliares), para 8 cidades da região Sudeste (1 para cada Zona Bioclimática). Os modelos unifamiliares tiveram paybacks favoráveis, de 2 a 6 anos, enquanto os multifamiliares tiveram paybacks de 4 a 13 anos. As diferenças foram identificadas pelo padrão de consumo da família, mas também pelo consumo do sistema de condicionamento de ar em relação ao clima. Outros aspectos impactantes foram a área disponível de fachada ou cobertura, e os custos dos módulos e inversores.
