Influences of liquefied lignin content on the properties of waterborne polyurethane prepared with different chain extenders

Abstract: Waterborne polyurethane resins (WPUs) were prepared from polytetramethylene ether glycol (PTMG) and PTMG/polyhydric alcohol liquefied lignin (LL) with isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), and ethylenediamine (EDA) and 1,4-butanediol (1,4-BD) were used as chain extenders. The effects of LL and the kind of chain extender on the properties of the WPU suspensions and dried films were studied. WPU suspensions prepared with PTMG/LL as the polyol had higher viscosity and larger average particle dimension than those with P… Show more

“…Lee and Chao 23 indicated that the polyol‐liquefied cedar wood could react with HDI, and a thermoplastic PU could be prepared via a three‐stage synthesis process. Lee et al 24 confirmed that polyol‐liquefied lignin can be used to replace part of PTMG in synthesizing waterborne PU resin.…”

“…In recent years, due to the rising awareness of environmental protection, the development and utilization of waterborne polyurethane (WPU) have attracted much attention. In the synthesis process of WPU resin, hydrophilic groups are introduced to modify the hydrophobic PU main chain, and then water and a chain extender are added to carry out emulsification and chain extension reactions to form WPU dispersion [ 29 , 30 ]. The obtained WPU resin is nontoxic, nonflammable, nonpolluting, and is a good environmentally friendly material.…”

“…Polyurethane acrylate is characterized by double bonds with a high reactivity at both ends. Depending on the composition and properties of the acrylic series used for synthesis, various structures and properties can be obtained [ 12 , 13 , 15 , 16 , 17 , 18 ]. The most commonly used monomers for 3D printing resins are bisphenol-A-glycidyl dimethacrylate (Bis-GMA), urethane dimethacrylate (UDMA), bisphenol-A-ethoxylated-glycidyl dimethacrylate (Bis-EMA), and trimethylolpropane triacrylate (TMPTMA) [ 13 , 19 , 20 ].…”
