Influence of working conditions on job satisfaction in anaesthetists

Abstract: Our results suggest that a high level of job satisfaction in anaesthetists correlates with interesting work demands and the opportunity to contribute skills and ideas. To improve job satisfaction, more attention should be paid to improving working conditions, including control over decision-making, and allowing anaesthetists to have more influence on their own work pace and work schedule.

“…This finding portrays that the state of working conditions reflects the degree of employee well-being among employees in the services industry. As advocated by Kinzl et al (2004) the working environment could influence the level of pride employees have in themselves and the work they do. Employees who work in clean and friendly environments are more likely to be satisfied with and look forward to their respective jobs (Spitzer, 2007).…”

Section D was composed of six questions (adapted from Fay & Thompson, 2004;Bockerman & Ilmakunnas, 2006) that elicited the respondents views on their levels of remuneration.…”

“…Sleep deprivation is an important feature and extremely relevant to be considered, not to mention burnout and its disastrous consequences both for professionals and their patients 14,16 . Most of these physicians reported that at least one of their shifts happen in urgent and emergency services, which can be considered as another risk factor for illness, as control over the work, a very important factor in job satisfaction, especially in these cases, is nonexistent, and any type of patient may require assistance at any time 17,18 .…”
