Influence of Trp64Arg Polymorphism of Beta 3-Adrenoreceptor Gene on Insulin Resistance, Adipocytokines and Weight Loss Secondary to Two Hypocaloric Diets

Abstract: Objective: To investigate the influence of the Trp64Arg polymorphism in the beta 3-adrenoreceptor gene on adipocytokines, insulin resistance and weight loss secondary to a low fat versus a low carbohydrate diet. Methods: A population of 193 obese patients was analyzed. A nutritional evaluation was performed at the beginning and at the end of a 2-month period in which subjects received 1 of 2 hypocaloric diets. Results: 172 (89.1%; 44 males, 128 females) subjects had the genotype Trp64/Trp64 (wild-type group) a… Show more

“…More detailed serum chemistry (such as inflammatory cytokines and adipokines) depended on the specific context and primary outcome indicators of each study. Given the potential for affective disorders to affect inflammatory cytokine levels, 19,27 it is noteworthy that 4 of the 15 trials measured tumour necrosis factor alpha and interleukin-6, [28][29][30][31] which are known to be affected by Psychosocial characterisation in dietary weight-loss RCTs SM Somerset et al psychological factors, but none assessed subjects for associated psychological attributes. In terms of psychosocial characterisation of subjects at baseline, data collection could best be described as weak.…”

“…Though limited, there is some evidence to suggest that ADRB receptor polymorphisms interact with dietary nutrients (de Luis et al, 2009) and may also be involved in regulating food intake. In adults, ADRB3 Trp64Arg appears to interact with carbohydrate preference/consumption (Aoyama et al, 2003), and may also operate synergistically with PPARG variants to modulate satiety expression (Cecil et al, 2007).…”
