Influence of the Regime of Electropulsing-Assisted Machining on the Plastic Deformation of the Layer Being Cut

Abstract: In this article, the influence of electropulsing on the machinability of steel S235 and aluminium 6060 has been studied during conventional and electropulsing-assisted turning processes. The machinability indices such as chip compression ratio ξ, shear plane angle ϕ and specific cutting energy (SCE) are investigated by using different cutting parameters such as cutting speed, cutting feed and depth of cut during electrically-assisted turning process. The results and analysis of this work indicated that the ele… Show more

“…As can be seen on table 3, chip ratio is lower when the machining process is assisted with electropulses, a situation also described on [28]; if chip thickness decreases, so does the shear stress [29], evidencing how the pulsed current produces an effect on chip shape and the material plasticity. The reasons behind this phenomenon are not completely understood and the Joule effect is one of the ideas most widely accepted as an answer to its genesis.…”

“…Regarding the helical milling, there are two similar helical milling techniques: Ball Helical Milling (BHM) and Contouring Ball Helical Milling (CBHM) [9]; results were quite good in quality but times were far from those obtained in twist-drilling operation, or in other processes [10][11] Takt-time in aeroengine manufacturing prevent in many cases to replace the drilling with twist drills, so edge burrs and not very good finishing are common issues. In emerging processes, the plasticity of metal is also key, as shown in [12][13] In this paper, brushing techniques using abrasive flexible tools are studied. The aim is to implement these tools for the finishing process, being able to improve the surface finish obtained on one hand, and get the rounding of edges in countersunk holes on the other.…”

“…The scope of their applications is extensive but has one distinction-products of ceramic and hard alloys are used in extreme operating conditions under heat and ultimate loads. In this condition, no other material can provide the necessary performance, heat and wear resistance [4,5].…”
