Influence of suspension hysteresis characteristics on vehicle vibration performance

Abstract: To analyze the influence of the leaf spring hysteresis characteristics on the vehicle body vibration performance, it is necessary to take the physical nonlinear factors into account in the suspension dynamic modeling analysis. The hysteresis characteristics of the leaf spring are caused by the contact and friction between the spring pieces. Besides that, the damping elements of the suspension system are also strongly nonlinear. And hence this article presents a generalized Maxwell-slip damper (GMD) model, whic… Show more

“…The analytical vehicle dynamics models derived by equations of motion usually use static stiffness as the LS suspension stiffness 14 alternatively. The Bouc-Wen model 15,16 and the generalized Maxwell-slip damper (GMD) model 17 were used to describe the LS hysteresis characteristics caused by friction. However, those methods can describe the elastic characteristics of LS, but they are not capable of stiffness optimization.…”

“…Understeer and roll characteristics were improved by changing the diameter of the anti-roll bar. Wu et al 4 proposed a generalized Maxwell-slip dampers (GMD) model to analyze the influence of the hysteresis characteristics of leaf springs caused by contact and friction between the spring plates on the vibration performance of the vehicle body under different road excitation. Some scholars have designed specific suspension structures to improve the handling stability and ride comfort of vehicle.…”
