Influence of strands transposition on current distribution and power losses in windings of AC machines

Abstract: This paper analyses how the type of winding affects the current distribution and power losses in armature winding. Using finite element method, four different types of winding used in large asynchronous motors are analyzed: form-wound concentric, with and without transposition, and form-wound barrel, with and without transposition, for the stationary state. In two cases, the calculation shows clear differences between maximum currents in strands, a shift in their phases, and a resulting increase of AC resistan… Show more

“…Moreover, in order for the power flow study to function, computer programs perform related calculations such as short-circuit fault assessment, stability studies with a focus on the transient and steady-state, unit commitment and economic dispatch [7]. Maintaining a high level of system security is one of the more important aspects of power systems that should be noted, as well as the economic operation of these systems [8,9].…”

“…It presents the state of art in electrical machine modeling and analysis using electrical machine electrical equivalent circuit models, to define the high-frequency behavior of the machine. For the analysis of machine operation, the finite element method (FEM) method is often used as in [11], or the traditional analytical method as in [12], while a hybrid calculation method of radial electromagnetic force based on FEM and analytical method is proposed in [13]. A new analytic-numeric method for permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSM) is presented in [14] and validated by experimental results.…”
