Influence of rotor–stator component partition structure on the aerodynamic performance of centrifugal compressors

Abstract: The partition structure (PS) between the impeller and stationary blade of a centrifugal compressor considerably influences a compressor's performance. Based on computational fluid dynamics, this study constructed a coupling calculation model for the main flow, wheel cover, wheel disk side partition clearance, and sealing structure. Furthermore, we examined the influence that different PS shapes (i.e. circular arc, trapezoidal, and rectangular) and radial clearances (2, 4, and 6 mm) at the entrance of the cavit… Show more

“…The impeller also has an important impact on the performance improvement of the compressor, so a lot of research work has been carried out by scholars in the design optimization of the compressor [19][20][21][22]. Li et al studied a set of high-speed compressor impellers with different geometries and analyzed the secondary flow model, where the ratio of impeller inlet diameter to outlet diameter has an effect on the impeller flow uniformity, which, in turn, affects the compressor efficiency [23].…”

“…Qin [10] found the cavity flow has little impact on the flow field in the upstream impeller, but it significantly increases the flow loss in the downstream diffuser. Li [11] calculated and analyzed the internal flow field characteristics of the IBC and its influence on the performance of the whole machine. Liu [12] summarized the influence of the change in radial position of the swirl-controlled orifice on the pressure distribution, and the effect of the axial load on the rotating disk under various radial inflow (including Re ω , C w , G, β 0 , λ T , etc.).…”

“…Akbarian et al (2018) used a CFD method to simulate the use of natural gas in a dual-fueled diesel engine. Li, Ji, Shi, and Sun (2019) used CFD to numerically evaluate the influence of the rotor-stator partition structure on the aerodynamic performance of the centrifugal compressor and its loss mechanism. It can be seen from the above research and applications that CFD is an important engineering method for describing the flow and heat transfer inside or outside the equipment, especially for complicated structural components.…”
