Influence of Pulse Shaping Filters on PAPR Performance of Underwater 5G Communication System Technique: GFDM

Abstract: Generalized frequency division multiplexing (GFDM) is a new candidate technique for the fifth generation (5G) standard based on multibranch multicarrier filter bank. Unlike OFDM, it enables the frequency and time domain multiuser scheduling and can be implemented digitally. It is the generalization of traditional OFDM with several added advantages like the low PAPR (peak to average power ratio). In this paper, the influence of the pulse shaping filter on PAPR performance of the GFDM system is investigated and … Show more

“…When the number of subcarriers = 1 and the pulse shape used is Dirichlet, SC-FDE is realized. OFDM like system is obtained [20] when the number of subsymbols = 1 and the pulse shape is rectangular. Making it possible to utilize multiple waveforms optimally, in a single implementation, according to the channel conditions.…”

“…Wu-Ma-Qi-Babar-Zheng (WMQBZ) have studied the impact of various pulse shaping filters on the PAPR of a UWA-GFDM transmission system [20]. As discussed earlier, the use of protype filters for pulse shaping reduces the OOB emissions of the GFDM system resulting in a reduced PAPR.…”

“…The flexibility in selecting subblocks and subcarriers allows the GFDM to take full advantage of the scattered spectrum, which greatly improves the spectral efficiency and can be applied to future multiuser underwater acoustic communications. As a multicarrier technology compared with OFDM, one of the biggest advantages of GFDM is the low peak-toaverage ratio (PAPR); [9] gives a detailed PAPR performance of GFDM. However, the structure causes difficulty in channel estimation, which makes it unusable in UWA communication whose channel condition is more complicated than that of radio communications [10][11][12].…”

“…The selection of pulseforming filters has a major influence on the performance of GFDM communication systems. Thus, PAPR is influenced by same filter factor as different roll-off factors or different filters with the same roll-off factor [10]. PTS and selected mapping techniques are used to reduce the increase in PAPR due to the application of high power amplifiers.…”
