Emerging 5G Multicarrier Chaotic Sequence Spread Spectrum Technology for Underwater Acoustic Communication

Abstract: Generalized frequency division multiplexing (GFDM) is a newly introduced technique for the wireless fifth-generation (5G) standard based on multicarrier filter bank theory, which has the advantage of flexibility in setting the number of subcarriers and subblocks. The application of GFDM in underwater acoustic (UWA) communication can take full advantage of the limited spectral resources, which is a prime limitation in UWA communication and will promote the development of UWA network technology. However, the mul… Show more

“…As recorded the limited bandwidth in underwater acoustic, OFDM suits for communication purposes. Contrary, OFDM offers a profitable integration over single-carrier modulations against with the frequency selective fading [312]. Thus, come up for all these issues, the requirement to deploys multi-carrier transmission schemes.…”

“…Since channel estimation in GFDM systems operating in underwater acoustic channel remains an unsolved challenge, Jinqiu-Gang-Pengbin (JGP) [25] have proposed a spread spectrum technique based GFDM transceiver. At the receiver side, through dispreading, the strongest signal is detected preventing the need for a channel estimation block.…”

“…In underwater environment, we mainly concentrate on modelling of ambient noise. The simulation of underwater noise as a function of frequency is carried out using Equations (9) to (12). The four main sources of underwater noise, namely, turbulence, shipping, wind and thermal noise, and the total noise according to equation (13), are simulated for s = 0 and w = 1 m/s, and the simulation result is shown in Figure 4.…”
