Influence of Physical Exercise on Neuroimmunological Functioning and Health: Aging and Stress

Abstract: Chronic and acute stress, with associated pathophysiology, are implicated in a variety of disease states, with neuroimmunological dysregulation and inflammation as major hazards to health and functional sufficiency. Psychosocial stress and negative affect are linked to elevations in several inflammatory biomarkers. Immunosenescence, the deterioration of immune competence observed in the aged aspect of the life span, linked to a dramatic rise in morbidity and susceptibility to diseases with fatal outcomes, alte… Show more

“…Associations between physical exercise and risk-for-PD, effects of exercise on idiopathic PD and quality-of-life, Parkinsonism and DA loss in laboratory models, and efficacy of L-dopa offer much plausible evidence (Archer et al 2011a) for unique lifestyle adaptation for disorder management. Increasingly, it is evident that individuals afflicted with neurodegenerative may be recipient of the manifest benefits regarding structure, function, and quality-of-life that physical activity and exercise have to offer (Archer 2011;Archer et al 2011b).…”

“…Thus, regular exercise may promote behavioural and metabolic resilience [30,[32][33][34]129,159,[175][176][177][178][179]. Adipose tissue and contracting skeletal muscle have been reported to serve as endocrine organs to release molecules (such as cytokines) that orchestrate the metabolism and function of other organs, including the brain.…”

“…Lower basal levels of PA have been associated with poor mental health (8), depression and perceived stress (9)(10)(11). Lifestyle intervention programs for T2DM have been previously verified in many controlled trials: PA shows better effects on glycemic control and blood pressure than other therapies alone (12,13).…”
