Influence of Packaging Process on Mechanical Characteristics of the Flexible Packaging Materials

Abstract: The paper aimed to examine if the mechanical characteristics (tensile strength, elongation, and friction) of the selected flexible packaging materials (BOPP and PET/PE) change after the packaging process. Some researchers have shown that mechanical characteristics can change because of the various effects to which foils are exposed (temperature, transport devices, solvents, etc.). The measurement of tensile strength and elongation was carried out according to SRPS G.S2.734, and the measurement of friction acco… Show more

“…The mechanical properties of edible packaging films are typically determined by their tensile strength and elongation at break [ 62 ]. These parameters are crucial to determine the suitability of the packaging material for processing in the entire technological process, including printing, laminating, and packaging, as well as further resistance during transport, handling, and storage [ 63 ]. In the context of materials science, the tensile strength (MPa) of an edible film represents the maximum stress the film can withstand before breaking.…”
