Influence of Oxide Glass Modifiers on the Structural and Spectroscopic Properties of Phosphate Glasses for Visible and Near-Infrared Photonic Applications

Abstract: The effect of oxide modifiers on multiple properties (structural and spectroscopic) of phosphate glasses with molar composition 60P2O5-(10−x)Ga2O3-30MO-xEu2O3 and 60P2O5-(10−y)Ga2O3-30MO-yEr2O3 (where M = Ca, Sr, Ba; x = 0, 0.5; y = 0, 1) were systematically examined and discussed. The local structure of systems was evidenced by the infrared (IR-ATR) and Raman spectroscopic techniques. The spectroscopic behaviors of the studied glass systems were determined based on analysis of recorded spectra (excitation and… Show more

“…Here, Eu 2 O 3 atoms after 2.5 mol% in the matrix stop playing the role of the modifier. In the amorphous network, at 3.0 mol% of Eu 2 O 3 content, the dopant loses its capability of depolymerization, hence increasing the 'V m ' and NBOs [26].…”

“…BaO also provides higher Tg, thermal stability, transmission spectra, and the crosslinking network density to glass materials (16,17). Additionally, high BaO concentrations in the Er 3+ doped phosphate glasses give rise to intense red and near-infrared (NIR) emissions (18).…”

“…Due to their properties, phosphate glasses were regarded as better hosts compared to other host glass networks [8][9][10] .The poor chemical durability of phosphate glass is always treated by addition suitable oxides such as ZnO, MoO3, and Al2O3. On the other hand, inlaying the phosphate network with ZnO improves the optical and electronic properties of phosphate glass [11][12] . Fluoride host materials have a high quantum yield of luminescence due to ionic bonds and low phonon energy of fluoride [13][14] .…”
