Influence of Nanosized Silicon Carbide on Dimensional Stability of Al/SiC Nanocomposite

Abstract: This study concentrated on the role of particle size of silicon carbide (SiC) on dimensional stability of aluminum. Three kinds of Al/SiC composite reinforced with different SiC particle sizes (25 μm, 5 μm, and 70 nm) were produced using a high-energy ball mill. The standard samples were fabricated using powder metallurgy method. The samples were heated from room temperature up to 500• C in a dilatometer at different heating rates, that is, 10, 30, 40, and 60• C/min. The results showed that for all materials, … Show more

“…The CTE values of Al/nano SiC composites are important in electronic industry as electronic chips [39][40]. Particle reinforced metal matrix composites have already found commercial use on account of the fact that conventional processing techniques, such as powder metallurgy, vacuum hot pressing, co-spray deposition process, squeeze casting, and stir casting methods can be readily adopted for the processing of such materials [41][42].The introduction should briefly place the study References should be numbered in order of appearance and indicated by a numeral or numerals in square brackets, e.g., [1] or [2,3], or [4][5][6].…”

“…Particulate reinforced MMCs have been found to be more economical in the many applications [3]. Much research has been conducted on particulate reinforced MMCs, however the majority of this work has focused on micrometric particle dispersions which are easier to achieve than nano-metric particle dispersions, but less effective in strengthening [4,5].…”
