Influence of LV neutral grounding on global Earthing Systems

Abstract: International Standards define a Global Earthing System as an earthing net created interconnecting local Earthing Systems (generally through the shield of MV cables and/or bare buried conductors). In Italy the Regulatory Authority for Electricity and Gas requires Distributors to guarantee the electrical continuity of LV neutral conductor. This requirement has led to the standard practice of realizing “reinforcement groundings” along the LV neutral conductor path and at users' delivery cabinet. Moreover, in urb… Show more

“…The GES effects can be enhanced by other several metallic parts, such as LV ESs, water/gas pipelines, railway and tramway tracks. In fact, these elements are commonly widespread in city centers, urban or industrial areas, that is, where GESs can normally be found [7], [11].…”

“…If metallic parts are widespread but not interconnected with grounding systems, their effect is negligible. An example of important contribution is provided by distributed LV neutral grounding [20], [21], [22].…”

“…Similarly, for the evaluation of the second effect of a GES, field measurements to characterize the most of the metallic parts that can be buried in urban areas were carried out [12]; their effects on the ground potential profile were analyzed by an analytical model, based on the Maxwell's subareas method [13], [14].…”
