Influence of layer bonding on compressive strength of 3D printed structure: An experimental study

Abstract: The impact of 3D printing parameters is critical for expanding the application of technology in the design and construction. The effect of bonding layers on the compressive strength of the material is investigated in this research by variation of the layer thickness and print speed. Cube specimens with layer thicknesses ranging from 0.05 to 0.3mm and print rates of 40mm/s, were tested on compression with the DARTEC test equipment. It was found that layer thicknesses of 0.05mm and 0.15mm have similar elastic pr… Show more

“…That is why the mechanical strength of the MEX parts in thermoplastics is always different from that of injection moulded components (Ahn et al , 2002; ERYILDIZ, 2021). Higher the bonding between the layers of the MEX part, closer it will be to the homogenous injection moulded parts of the same material (Ali and Alazawi, 2022; Sood et al , 2010); the bonding between the layers totally depends on the process parameters i.e. build speed, layer height and the nozzle temperature (Kumar et al , 2023).…”
