Infection status and molecular identification of digenean cercariae in snails in Kim Son district, Ninh Binh Province and Ba Vi district, Ha Noi

Abstract: In this study, the molecular method was used to identify digenean cercariae from freshwater snails in Kim Son District (Ninh Binh Province) and Ba Vi District Ha Noi. A total of 9 snail species were collected and examined for cercarial infection. Three snail species (Radix swinhoei, Angulyagra polyzonata and Pomacea canaliculata) were not infected, while the other 6 species (Austropeplea viridis, Gyraulus convexiusculus, Parafossarulus striatulus, Bithynia fuchsiana, Melanoides tuberculata and Tarebia granifer… Show more

“…Up to present, the gymnocephalous cercariae of three species i.e. Fasciola gigantica, Sphaeridiotrema monorchis and S. pseudoglobulus have been identified by the experimental infection or molecular analyses (Besprozvannykh et al, 2013;Doanh et al 2019). Regarding the snail host, Radix auriculata is of great parasitological importance as it includes several intermediate hosts of trematodes which infect man, mammals, e.g.…”

“…Gyraulus convexiusculus (Hutton) is an intermediate host for several trematode parasites 13,14 including Echinostoma revolutum , Australapatemon burti , 15 Artyfechinostomum malayanum (intestinal flukes), 16 Sanguinicola armata (blood fluke), 17 and Cercaria sp. 18 In addition, G convexiusculus is an intermediate host of Olveria indica , an amphistome parasite.…”

“…Moreover, P. canaliculata is an intermediate host for human parasites such as Angiostrongylus cantonensis, which leads to eosinophilic meningitis, 9 Gnathostoma spinigerum, which is the cause of gnathostomiasis, 10 and Angiostrongylus vasorum which leads to eosinophilic encephalitis, 11 and the intestinal fluke Echinostoma ilocanum. 12 Gyraulus convexiusculus (Hutton) is an intermediate host for several trematode parasites 13,14 including Echinostoma revolutum, Australapatemon burti, 15 Artyfechinostomum malayanum (intestinal flukes), 16 Sanguinicola armata (blood fluke), 17 and Cercaria sp. 18 In addition, G convexiusculus is an intermediate host of Olveria indica, an amphistome parasite.…”
