Industry 4.0 and supply chain process re-engineering

Abstract: PurposeThis paper contributes to the literature on supply chain process management by discussing how Industry 4.0 technologies can support process re-engineering in the context of the construction industry.Design/methodology/approachThe paper discusses the impact of Industry 4.0 technologies through an exploratory case study focused on the materials management process, using a coproduction of research approach where the main findings are obtained through the involvement of internal and external process actors.… Show more

“…The networks of the agile and intelligent micro-production units allow the sustainable improvement due to the possibility of the simple organization and to the supply chain logic (Rauch et al, 2017). In Industry 4.0 context, the digitization of the company's processes makes it possible to connect the company's sectors with everyone involved in the supply chains (Ardito et al, 2019a;Patrucco et al, 2020). The innovation of the operating systems of the pharmaceutical industry can promote the sustainability, as making the intelligent systems makes it possible to reduce waste, consume less energy, improve the company's brand and gain competitive advantages (Ding, 2018).…”

“…New competitive contexts, network dynamics, digitization and the sharing economy present continuous stimuli for renewing the sources of competitive advantage (Caputo et al, 2021;Kortmann et al, 2014;Liu and Liang, 2015;Zhang, 2011;Chen, 2019;Haseeb et al, 2019;Veiga et al, 2021). Current markets are witnessing a rapid increase in activities that were traditionally realized within companies by outsourcing processes (McIvor, 2009;Kwak et al, 2018;Abeysekara et al, 2019;Patrucco et al, 2020). The search for success frequently leads to partnerships and strategic alliances (Boddy et al, 2000;Li et al, 2017;Aggarwal and Kapoor, 2019;Reuer et al, 2016).…”
