Theoretical Exploration of Supply Chain Viability Utilizing Blockchain Technology

Abstract: As a disruptive and innovative technology, blockchain will significantly revolutionize how organizations produce and operate as global rivalry intensifies. The global COVID-19 outbreak, combined with the growing complexity of supply chain networks, has exposed supply chains’ vulnerability to disruption. Therefore, improving the supply chain viability is the primary way to deal with the risk of supply chain disruption. Using the method of literature research, this conceptual paper systematically reviewed and so… Show more

“…Referring to the results (Table 5), the SC manager's perception of robustness capabilities (total effect = 0.766, p < 0.05) enhanced SC integration, which led to improved firm performance. SC managers believe that the adoption of blockchain improves internal and external integration, which provides firm robustness and boosts firm performance (Benzidia et al ., 2021; Li et al ., 2021; Nandi et al ., 2020; Pan et al ., 2020; Yin and Ran, 2021). The results show (Table 6) that SC managers believe that firm robustness capabilities (total effect = 0.912, p < 0.05) improved by blockchain-enabled SC agility as well as firm performance.…”

“…There are some limitations to this study that should be addressed in the future: First, this paper investigates the relationship between supply network complexity, geographic dispersion, inventory turns, and firm performance during COVID-19, and future research can investigate how the antecedent conditions are configured to improve firm performance from a different perspective. Such as innovation, supply network resilience, and supply chain survival (Yin & Ran, 2021), besides, we also can investigate the impact of digital transformation (Elgazzar et al, 2022), firm governance (PeiZhi & Ramzan, 2020), and new technology (Porter et al, 2020; Yli-Huumo et al, 2016) on firm performance under COVID-19 or supply chain disruptions. Second, we primarily use the data from Chinese listed firms, which may not be appropriate for the SME firms, so we can conduct detailed studies on different types of firms.…”

“…Therefore, to design better logistics and supply chain management processes, management must acquire knowledge through exploration and exploitation processes (Schniederjans et al , 2020). Exploration is all about developing new routines and solutions within the company (Yin and Ran, 2021). On the other hand, exploitation is about taking advantage of emerging opportunities and ideas to redesign solutions and preexisting knowledge (Schniederjans et al , 2020).…”
