“…As the HTS tapes resistance in the HTS transformer is normally negligible, a small imbalance in the inductance of the branches can make the current and magnetic distribution in the branches completely uneven and consequently increase or decrease the AC losses and critical current. On the other hand, the inductance of transformer windings depends on the structural characteristics of the windings, including the radius of the windings (Moradnouri et al , 2021). According to Figure 1, the radius of the windings, in addition to the diameter of the core, depends on other factors such as the inner radius of the cryostat and the thickness of the inner wall of the cryostat, and the distance of the windings from the inner wall of the cryostat and the distance between the HV and LV windings, which can be somewhat variable depending on the design of the HTS transformer.…”

“…This kind of comparison of the conventional and HTS designs is not correct because decreasing the short-circuit impedance can significantly reduce the total cost of ownership in the case of conventional transformers as well [32]. These relatively small leakage inductances result in higher short circuit forces, where the brittleness of the ReBCO materials and the short circuit limiting the capacity of the superconductor cable should be considered [33,34]. Berger et al [35] compared the efficiency and the losses of a 63 MVA HTS transformer.…”
