Individual electrical conductivity test for the assessment of soybean seed germination

Abstract: Soybean seed quality is affected by many factors, which may occur during the production, processing, and storage phases. To ensure the quality of seeds, the adoption of fast and efficient methods to estimate seed viability in quality control programs is important. This study aimed to determine a partition point of the individual electrical conductivity test to predict soybean seed germination. Three lots each of five different soybean cultivars (Fundacep 57 RR, BMX Potência RR, BMX Força RR, BMX Turbo RR, and … Show more

“…at a constant temperature of 25 º C and the readings performed in six imbibition periods (2,4,6,8,12 and 24 hours) for each lot and cultivar. The results were expressed in μS cm -1 seed -1 (Mattioni et al 2015).…”

“…Tests that evaluate seeds vigor provide more sensitive indexes when compared to the traditional germination test (AOSA, 1983). The electrical conductivity test has been used to evaluate the seeds vigor, potential of emergence and storage of species such as soybean and wheat (Mattioni et al 2015, Mertz et al 2012). However, the results can be affected by some factors such as: characteristics of the seed itself (size and genotype, mechanical damage, insect injury); imbibition temperature, chemical treatment; degree of moisture, quality and volume of water (Vieira & Krzyzanowski, 1999, Marcos Filho, 2015.…”

“…Pola peningkatan daya hantar listrik kedua varietas berbeda, varietas Gepak Kuning berjalan lebih lambat dan mulai terlihat pada minggu ke-12, sedangkan peningkatan daya hantar listrik varietas Mallika berjalan lebih cepat sejak minggu ke-4. Perbedaan nilai dan kecepatan peningkatan daya hantar listrik dipengaruhi oleh varietas dan vigor awal benih (Mattioni et al, 2015). Vigor awal simpan Mallika lebih rendah (85%) dibandingkan Gepak Kuning (92.75%).…”

“…The germination test is the official and standard procedure to evaluate seed capacity to produce a normal plant under ideal conditions. However, the extended time required to obtain the results constitutes a disadvantage for such procedure (MATTIONI et al, 2015). This happens especially in coffee seeds (Coffea arabica L.) which show uneven and slow germination rate and generally have a low conservation potential for storage, increasing seed exposure to adverse conditions of the environment, which may affect its vigor and survival (CLEMENTE et al, 2015).…”
