Increased sheep lung vascular permeability caused by histamine.

Abstract: To see whether histamine increases lung vascular permeability to protein, we compared the effects of steady-state histamine infusions on lung vascular pressures, lung lymph flow, and lung lymph protein content with the effects of mechanically elevated lung vascular pressures on these variables in the same unanesthetized sheep. We surgically implanted catheters in the pulmonary artery, the left atrium, the superior vena cava, and a main lung lymphatic. After the sheep had recovered from surgery, we carried out … Show more

“…There are several known mediators that could be involved (4,8,9), but further studies will be necessary before any rational suggestion can be made. Whether the same biochemical mechanisms are involved in both phases of the reaction and whether the two phases are independent or interdependent also remains to be established.…”

“…Известно, что высокие концентрации гистамина приводят к повышению проницаемости легочных ка пилляров [25] и бронхиальных венул, увеличивая поры их эндотелия [26]. Он также вызывает сужение перифе лабораторных показателей у больных с осложненным течением заболевания (n=22) рических бронхов [27], способствуя нарушению венти ляционной функции легких и создавая предпосылки для развития в них воспалительных процессов.…”

“…We showed previously that histamine infusions in unanestheti7ed sheep caused pulmonary edema and increased vascular permeability as reflected in measurements of lung lymph (1). We have now measured the effects of H1 and H2 antihistamines (diphenhydramine and metiamide) on the histamine response in the same animal preparation.…”
