Increased Serum Chemerin Levels in Diabetic Retinopathy of Type 2 Diabetic Patients

Abstract: Serum levels of chemerin were significantly increased in the NPDR and PDR group. Elevated serum level of chemerin and its positive correlation with BMI, CRP and VEGF suggested that chemerin was associated with obesity, inflammation and neovascularization and might be involved in the development of DR.

“…In this study, in vivo functional angiogenesis assays confirmed that chemerin significantly mediates the formation of blood vessels to a similar extent as that of VEGF. These results support the other reports, which show that the serum levels of chemerin and VEGF are significantly increased in the proliferative diabetic retinopathy and nonproliferative retinopathy patients (Du et al 2016). Figure 5.…”

“…; Shin et al (24) ; Yoo et al (25) ; Sledzinski et al (26) ; Bobbert et al (27) and Du et al (28) detected a strong association between chemerin and obesity. These findings indicated that chemerin may play a role in obesity and the development of obesity comorbidities.…”
