Increased levels of soluble Fcγ receptor III in gingival fluid from periodontal lesions

Abstract: Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used for determination of the concentration of soluble Fc gamma receptor III (Fc gamma RIII) in 40 samples of gingival fluid obtained from periodontal pockets in 30 patients with periodontitis. The assay was based on a monoclonal immobilized antibody binding Fc gamma RIII and a polyclonal Fc gamma RIII rabbit antibody for its quantification. The results indicate a substantially increased concentration of soluble Fc gamma RIII in gingival fluid as compared to the serum leve… Show more

“…This suggests that neutrophils lose surface FcgRs after the cells move into the periodontal pocket. FcgRIII is likely to be cleaved off by microbial phospholipase C (Bul-kacz & Erbland 1997, Siboo et al 1989), a contention that is supported by the observation of high levels of soluble FcgRIII in gingival fluid (Yuan et al 1999b). This might seriously impair phagocytosis of bacteria by neutrophils in the periodontal pocket.…”

“…Soluble Fcγ‐binding components, e.g. FcRγIII, have been detected in GCF from periodontal lesions (242). The results showed elevated GCF levels of this molecule when compared to matched sera, suggesting a potential contribution to disrupting local homeostatsis.…”
