Increase in Synchronization of Autonomic Rhythms between Individuals When Listening to Music

Abstract: In light of theories postulating a role for music in forming emotional and social bonds, here we investigated whether endogenous rhythms synchronize between multiple individuals when listening to music. Cardiovascular and respiratory recordings were taken from multiple individuals (musically trained or music-naïve) simultaneously, at rest and during a live concert comprising music excerpts with varying degrees of complexity of the acoustic envelope. Inter-individual synchronization of cardiorespiratory rhythms… Show more

“…Such higher in-group cardiac synchrony, when compared with out-group cardiac synchrony, was also found during monologues attendance. This result enriches the literature about the collective forms of art 16 , showing how spontaneous cardiac synchrony occurs automatically among the spectators of the same theatrical performance even if they are not directly interacting with each other. Again, this result further stresses the importance of the actual co-presence of spectators.…”

“…Indeed, the members of a chorus synchronize their cardiorespiratory activity when singing 14 , as well as, clapping spectators synchronize their hand movements after a showstopper 15 . More recently, Bernardi and colleagues 16 find enhanced autonomic synchrony among passive spectators while listening to organ music excerpts.…”

“…Therefore listen to music full of feeling peaceful and serene setting like classical music will also have an impact upon the psychic quieter and relaxes. By listening to music also affects the autonomic nervous menstimulus and (nerves nervous system) to be menstimulus other nervous so seserorang can feel at peace and quiet (relax) (Bernardi et al, 2017;Mukherjee, Palit, Banerjee, & Bhattacharya, 2015;Ohira & Marumo, 2017).…”

“…When a person is listening music, then the frequencies of the music can be contradict or mingle with the frequency of the human body. If there is a commonality frequency, one will feel comfort and can implement witht thelearning process better, and can say someone is at a State of relaxed and alert (Bernardi et al, 2017;Drăgulin & Șuteu, 2017;Ohira & Marumo, 2017).…”

“…Few investigators also claim that passive listening to music by itself can raise HR, BP and RR depending on the tempo of the music played which explains nonsignificance within the two groups with respect to reduction in anxiety levels. 20,28,29 In the current study though, care was taken to provide patient preferred music. Though anxiety levels were lowered at the end of surgery in control group due to general adaptation, further investigation is required on the basis of the different dermato-surgeries performed and patient's awareness of the steps in the dermato-surgical procedure they underwent along with the duration and type of music that needs to be included in the study.…”
