Incorporation of CuO NPs into modified UiO-66-NH2 metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) with melamine for catalytic C–O coupling in the Ullmann condensation

Abstract: The UiO-66-NH2 is initially modified with melamine via a post-synthetic approach. CuO NPs are then anchored via the available functional groups on the surface of the modified MOF.

“…The UiO-66-NH 2 was modified with melamine via a post-synthetic approach consisting in the reaction of cyanuric chloride with the NH 2 groups of the amino-BDC linker and final substitution of the chloride leaving groups by amino ones (Figure 19). [125] The particle size of CuO was 10-20 nm that is too large to consider that they can be incorporated inside the pores of the perfect UiO-66 lattice. “…Heteropoly acids are strong Brønsted acids, but they are also redox catalysts and photocatalysts. Reproduced with permission from ref [125]. In one of these examples, different loadings of HPWs were encapsulated over UiO-66 to obtain HPWs@UiO-66 and their catalytic performance was examined in the oxidation of cyclopentene to glutaraldehyde using hydrogen peroxide as oxidant (Scheme 20).…”

“…Copper(II) ions were anchored by amine groups available on the surface of UiO‐66‐NH 2 ‐Mlm and then converted to copper oxide NPs by sodium borohydride at ambient condition. The preparation method was adopted from our previous report . Scheme reveals the synthetic steps in the preparation of UiO‐66‐NH 2 ‐Mlm/CuO NPs.…”

“…Both syntheses were catalyzed by CuO NPs supported on a metal–organic framework (MOF) of UiO‐66‐NH 2 . The catalyst has been employed for the C–O Ullmann coupling reaction in our previous work . MOFs are well‐known porous materials and offer high surface area, large pore size, low density, and tailorable functionality with exceptional thermal and chemical stability in case of using zirconium‐based MOFs (i.e., UiO‐66).…”
