Inclusion compounds of the copper(ii) and zinc(ii) complexes with cyclam in cucurbit[8]uril: synthesis and structure

Abstract: Inclusion compounds of the macrocyclic cavitand cucurbit[8]uril (CB[8], С 48 H 48 N 32 O 16 ) with the copper(II) and zinc(II) complexes with the tetraazamacrocyclic ligand cyclam, {[Cu(cyclam)(H 2 O) 2 ]@CB[8]}Cl 2 •18H 2 O (1) and {[Zn(cyclam)]@CB[8]}Cl 2 •13H 2 O (2), were synthesized. The compounds were characterized by X ray diffraction analysis, electrospray mass spectrometry, IR spectroscopy, and elemental analysis. The 1 H and 13 C NMR method revealed only one trans isomer of the zinc(II) complex with … Show more

“…Such variable orientations are often seen in encapsulation of metal complexes to CB. For instance, ferrocene 45 and copper cyclam complexes 46,47 bind to CB- [7] and CB- [8] in both orientations. However due to symmetry (C 3v ) both methane and neopentane bind only in one orientation (Figure S1, Supporting Information).…”

“…In recent years, interest in macrocyclic polyamines has been on the increase as a result of their attractive structures and their possible applications in many different fields [1][2][3]. The reason for that is their possibility to react or coordinate with many different metal ions as well as organic molecules via by nitrogen atoms [4][5][6][7].…”
