Campus Sport Centres are important for university or college to retain and recruit student body, faculty, staff, and community memberships. It is important for these institutions to implement effective strategic plans that meet the needs of customers and stakeholders while remaining financially independent. The study determines how a campus sport centre can become financially self-sustaining without the need of government funding to support the operations of the facility while delivering value to its customers and stakeholders. The study used the Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre (CJNSC) of the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) as the case organization. The strategic priority for the CJNSC is to become a financially self-sustaining facility to cover costs associated with its aging facility. Through the review of secondary data and some primary data, the study identified eight key revenue streams that could be implemented by the CJNSC. These include; 1) increases to the percentage of UNBC student recreation and fitness fees that the CJNSC receives, 2) increased fees to programming and memberships, 3) forming strategic alliances, 4) space utilization, 5) sport tourism planning with seasonality of facility booking space, 6) cancellation fees for memberships, 7) a membership pricing strategy, 8) naming rights. It was determined through the case organization that reducing expenses would not have the long-term benefit for the CJNSC and only existing and new revenues would satisfy the goal of being financially self-sustaining. This information is provided through an integrative framework that could be used as a template or tool by other organizations of similar structure and system as the CJNSC to develop their sports centers for successful outcomes. Campus recreational sports programs are designed to provide an on-campus leisure opportunity for college students, hopefully enhancing their quality of collegiate life. Yet, not all students choose to participate, much to the chagrin of recreational sports professionals and school administrators. The purpose of this study was to investigate how perceived constraints on intrapersonal, interpersonal, and structural levels influenced the participation of college students in recreational sports activities on an urban, commuter campus and a residential, rural campus. The sample of subjects consisted of 416 students who considered themselves nonparticipants in campus recreational sports. The results indicated that lack of time because of work, school or family, and not knowing the available activities were the two most strongly perceived constraints. Further investigation on differences in perceived constraints was conducted with respect to subjects' age, gender and place of residence.

Σκοπός της παρούσας έρευνας ήταν η δημιουργία ενός έγκυρου και αξιόπιστου εργαλείου μέτρησης των αντιλαμβανόμενων ανασταλτικών παραγόντων από τους φοιτητές/τριες κατά τη διαδικασία λήψης απόφασης για τη συμμετοχή τους σε δραστηριότητες άθλησης και αναψυχής στα ελληνικά πανεπιστήμια. Επιμέρους σκοποί της έρευνας ήταν: α) η διερεύνηση της επίδρασης των δημογραφικών χαρακτηριστικών, του τρόπου ζωής και των απόψεων των φοιτητών/τριων που αφορούν τον πανεπιστημιακό αθλητισμό, σε σχέση με τους μέσους όρους των αντιλαμβανόμενων ανασταλτικών παραγόντων, καθώς και του ποσοστού συμμετοχής στα προγράμματα άθλησης των ιδρυμάτων β) η παρουσίαση ενός πλαισίου πρακτικής παρέμβασης για την προβολή και προώθηση του πανεπιστημιακού αθλητισμού με την τμηματοποίηση των φοιτητών/τριων σε σχέση με τις αξίες που πιστεύουν γ) ο εντοπισμός και η αξιοποίηση των καθοδηγητών γνώμης. Το δείγμα της έρευνας απετέλεσαν 3041 φοιτητές/τριες από 7 ελληνικά πανεπιστήμια. Για τη δημιουργία του Ερωτηματολογίου Ανασταλτικών Παραγόντων στον Πανεπιστημιακό Αθλητισμό (ΕΑΠΠΑ) προηγήθηκαν δύο ποιοτικές και δύο ποσοτικές πιλοτικές έρευνες. Στο ερωτηματολόγιο της κύριας έρευνας συμπεριλήφθησαν ερωτήσεις σχετικές με τα δημογραφικά χαρακτηριστικά, τον τρόπο ζωής και τις απόψεις των φοιτητών/τριων, καθώς και δύο ακόμη ερωτηματολόγια. Για τη διερεύνηση των προσωπικών αξιών στις οποίες πιστεύουν οι φοιτητές/τριες χρησιμοποιήθηκε ως ερωτηματολόγιο η λίστα αξιών (List of Value-LOV) του Kahle (1983), ενώ για τον εντοπισμό των καθοδηγητών γνώμης χρησιμοποιήθηκε το ερωτηματολόγιο των Flynn, Goldsmith & Eastman (1994). Από τη διερευνητική και επιβεβαιωτική παραγοντική ανάλυση του (ΕΑΠΠΑ) προέκυψαν εννέα παράγοντες που ερμήνευαν το 69.75% της συνολικής διακύμανσης με δείκτη αξιοπιστίας Cronbach α = .76. Σημαντικότερος ανασταλτικός παράγοντας αναδείχθηκε η χρονοαπόσταση. Εντύπωση προκάλεσε το γεγονός της εμφάνισης προγενέστερων ανασταλτικών παραγόντων στους φοιτητές/τριες. Το (ΕΑΠΠΑ) φαίνεται ότι είναι ένα έγκυρο και αξιόπιστο εργαλείο μέτρησης των ανασταλτικών παραγόντων. Οι φοιτητές/τριες που ακολουθούν υγιεινό τρόπο ζωής, έχουν καλύτερη πληροφόρηση, είναι ευχαριστημένοι από τον ελεύθερο χρόνο που τους προσφέρει το πανεπιστήμιο και οι άνδρες σε σχέση με τις γυναίκες αντιλαμβάνονται κατά κανόνα μικρότερο βαθμό ανασταλτικών παραγόντων για τη συμμετοχή τους στην άθληση και συμμετέχουν σε μεγαλύτερη ποσοστιαία αναλογία στον πανεπιστημιακό αθλητισμό. Οι συμμετέχοντες και οι τακτικά συμμετέχοντες στον πανεπιστημιακό αθλητισμό αντιλαμβάνονται μικρότερο βαθμό ανασταλτικών παραγόντων σε σχέση με τους μη και ευκαιριακά συμμετέχοντες. Οι φοιτητές/τριες θεώρησαν χρήσιμη την ύπαρξη του πανεπιστημιακού αθλητισμού, ήταν πρόθυμοι να συμβάλουν οικονομικά για τη βελτίωση της ποιότητας των προγραμμάτων άθλησης και θα επέλεγαν το μάθημα της φυσικής αγωγής εάν υπήρχε ως προαιρετικό στο πρόγραμμα σπουδών τους. Με βάση τα αποτελέσματα της λίστας αξιών του Kahle, έγινε τμηματοποίηση των φοιτητών/τριων σύμφωνα με τις αξίες που πιστεύουν, ενώ με το ερωτηματολόγιο των Flynn, Goldsmith & Eastman εντοπίστηκαν οι καθοδηγητές γνώμης. Προτείνεται ένα πλαίσιο πρακτικής παρέμβασης στους φορείς διοίκησης των γραφείων φυσικής αγωγής, ώστε με βάση τις αξίες που πιστεύουν οι φοιτητές/τριες και την αξιοποίηση των καθοδηγητών γνώμης να αναπτύξουν πολιτικές προβολής και προώθησης των προγραμμάτων άθλησης και αναψυχής στα πανεπιστήμια.
