In the traditional system of medicine Ocimum sanctum Linn. is used to cure diseases like dysentery, bronchitis, malaria, bronchial asthma, diarrhea, arthritis, skin diseases, painful eye diseases, chronic fever. The essential oil obtained by using hydrodistillation of the leaves of Ocimum sanctum Linn. (purple variety) is collected throughout 1 y and analyzed employing gas chromatography equipped with flame ionization detector and gas chromatography connected with mass spectrometry. The yield of essential oil varied in the range from 0.14 to 0.21 % (w/w). 23 to 39 constituents were identified which represented 95.39±0.38 % of the total oil. The most abundant compound was identified as methyl eugenol with an average of 69.88±0.09 % with varying quantities from 55.48±0.36 to 76.78±0.54 %. The other constituents were beta-caryophyllene 10.40±0.06 %, alpha-ylangene 4.18±0.04 %, gamma-muurolene 3.64±0.04 % and borneol 2.02±0.01 %. The oil was found to be rich in phenylpropanoid (71.98±0.27 %) type constituents (average of 12 mo). A high amount of methyl eugenol (76.78±0.54 %) was observed during November while low (55.48±0.36 %) in April. It was noticed that when the plant was matured in April the accumulation of sesquiterpenes increased and phenylpropanoids decreased.

The present study explored essential oil constituents of the medicinal plants used in traditional medicine and growing wild in the Western Ghats region of India, which is one of the 34 global biodiversity hotspots. The hydro distilled essential oils of Blumea lanceolaria (Roxb.) Druce. (Asteraceae), Heliotropium indicum L. (Boraginaceae) and Triumfetta rhomboidea Jacq. (Tiliaceae) were analyzed using gas chromatography equipped with a flame ionization detector (GC-FID) and gas chromatography coupled with mass spectroscopy (GC/MS). Thirty-six, twenty-seven, and fifty constituents were identified from the essential oils of B. lanceolaria, H. indicum, and T. rhomboidea, respectively comprising 97.3% (B. lanceolaria), 98.2% (H. indicum) and 97.6% (T. rhomboidea) of the total oil constituents. The major compounds of B. lanceolaria, H. indicum, and T. rhomboidea were identified as β-pinene (82.3%), methyl salicylate (54.3%), and β-caryophyllene (28.9%), respectively. The essential of B. lanceolaria was found to be rich in monoterpene hydrocarbons (90.4%), while H. indicum and T. rhomboidea oils were rich in phenyl derivative (72.8%) and sesquiterpene hydrocarbons (69.5%) type constituents, respectively. The common compounds viz., terpin-4-ol and eugenol were identified in the essential oils of B. lanceolaria, H. indicum, and T. rhomboidea.

Introduction: The genus Zanthoxylum of the family Rutaceae is economically important due to its nutritional, industrial, and therapeutic values. Z. armatum is a short tree or a shrub that grows under dry conditions. Objective: The current examination manages the full scale concentrates just as investigations of assessment of pharmacognostical, phytochemical, antioxidants and antibacterial movement of Zanthoxylum armatum leaves some particular characters were noticed while contemplating their cross over areas. Materials and Methods: Physiochemical and primer phytochemical investigations of the leaves of the plant Zanthoxylum armatum were additionally done. The antioxidants assay is performed by various methods like DPPH, nitric oxide, and hydrogen peroxide. Results and Discussion: The extract of the plant shows various effects as antioxidants on various concentrations and showed graphically. The antibacterial examinations affirmed that the ethanolic removal was very compelling for Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, E. coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa at 25 μg/ml, 50 μg/ml, 100 μg/ml, 200 μg/ml, 300 μg/ml, 500 μg/ml and tetracycline (100 μg/ml) individually. The current investigation may be helpful to enhance data with respect to its distinguishing proof boundaries expected essentially in the method of the adequacy of home grown medications in the current situation lacking administrative laws to control nature of natural medications and furthermore to discover the antioxidants and antibacterial action.
