In vivo allograft rejection in a bony fish Dicentrarchus labrax (L.): characterisation of effector lymphocytes

Abstract: Lymphoid cell subpopulations involved in allograft rejection in the teleost Dicentrarchus labrax were characterised at the ultrastructural level and quantified by using monoclonal antibodies against T- and B-lymphocytes. T-cells positive for T-cell receptor beta-chain (TcR beta) were detected by reverse transcription/polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and in situ hybridisation by using RNA probes for TcR beta. Flow cytometry detected a similar percentage of T- and B-lymphocytes (around 17%) in the leucocyte-en… Show more

“…Interestingly, peripheral blood leucocytes from fish immunized with a DNA vaccine encoding the VHSV G protein lysed efficiently VHSV infected but not infectious haematopoietic necrosis virus (IHNV)-infected histocompatible targets [116]. Cytotoxic T cells were studied in sea bass, where TRB mRNA were detected by in situ hybridization in effector lymphocytes involved in allograft rejection [117]. In this species, cytotoxic T cells seem to be involved in mixed leucocyte reaction [118].…”

“…Romano et al [ 62 ] further characterized the effector cells involved in allograft rejection in sea bass employing electron microscopy combined with FACS, RT-PCR analysis, and ISH. Two different types of T-lymphocytes (DLT15-immunoreactive) infiltrating the allografts were identified and TcRβ + cells in the graft were less numerous compared with DLT15-positive cells.…”
