In Vitro Secreting Profile of Human Mesenchymal Stem Cells

Abstract: In addition to their multilineage potential, mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) also have a wide range of functionality. Not only can MSCs reconstruct a tissue, but they also have the ability to control or cure other cells and can reconstruct a coordinating function. The opportunity to control other cells depends on MSCs being able to secrete factors like cytokines and chemokines. Therefore, we focused on asking, Which factors can be secreted by human MSCs? To answer this question, we analyzed the secreting profile… Show more

“…A reason for this could be that bv-MSCs, in contrast to av-MSCs, secreted noticeable amounts of VEGF, an important inducer of angiogenesis, as shown by quantitative ELISA analysis. While MSCs from bone marrow are known to secrete VEGF [45][46][47][48], its secretion by av-MSCs has not been reported before, which is in accordance with our results. As less VEGF was found in the Cdm of av-MSCs compared with the control medium, we speculate that these cells take up VEGF from the medium and metabolize it in a similar extent as ECs.…”

“…These cells can be isolated from multiple types of tissue, including bone marrow (BM), skin, adipose and umbilical cord tissue (1)(2)(3), and are able to differentiate into osteoblasts, adipocytes, chondrocytes and myocardial cells in vitro (4,5). Previous studies have confirmed that MSCs are also able to secrete bioactive factors that alter the milieu of dysfunctional tissues (6,7). These observations provide strong evidence of the potential therapeutic role of MSCs in the treatment of various types of diseases.…”

“…Although the mammalian epicardium is activated after MI, the number of the activated cells is insufficient for myocardium repair 27, 28. MSCs secrete anti‐inflammatory, immunosuppressive, anti‐apoptotic and proangiogenic factors 29, 30. MSC‐conditioned medium increases capillary density and preserves cardiac function 31.…”
