Camel milk has significant economic value and is an important food in the region of Alxa Left Banner of Inner Mongolia. Fifteen fresh camel milk samples were collected from domesticated camels in a pasture of Alxa Left Banner. The physicochemical properties and bacterial diversity of camel milk samples were analyzed. The average values of fat, total protein, nonfat milk solids, acidity, and density were 4.40%, 3.87%, 9.50%, 16.95°T, and 1.02 g/cm 3 , respectively. The bacterial microbiota of the collected fresh camel milk was investigated using PacBio single-molecule real-time (Pacific Biosciences, Menlo Park, CA) sequencing. The camel milk microbiota was highly diverse and comprised 8,513 operational taxonomic units belonging to 32 phyla, 377 genera, and 652 species. The major phyla included Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, Deinococcus-Thermus, Bacteroidetes, and Actinobacteria. A small number of lactic acid bacteria sequences were detected, representing the species Streptococcus thermophilus, Lactobacillus helveticus, Lactococcus lactis, and Leuconostoc mesenteroides. A total of 72 strains of lactic acid bacteria were isolated and identified from 15 samples, including Lactobacillus paracasei, Enterococcus italicus, Enterococcus durans, Lactococcus lactis ssp. lactis, Weissella confusa, and Enterococcus faecium. These results confirm that fresh camel milk has a high bacterial diversity and is a valuable natural resource for isolation of novel lactic acid bacteria.

Probiotics renowned as valuable microbes serve as a potential alternative to control diseases in aquaculture and are considered as an efficient and environment-friendly approach to reduce the use of antibiotics. The present study aims at the isolation of putative probiotic bacteria from the intestinal tract of different fish species from the Doaba region of Punjab, India. In this study, isolated bacterial strains were characterized based on their morphological, biochemical and molecular characterization by 16S rRNA gene sequencing, followed by in vitro evaluation of different selection parameters described in FAO/WHO guidelines. A total of 169 different bacterial strains were isolated from the gastrointestinal tract of 52 different fish species. After in vitro evaluation, out of 169 bacterial strains only five bacteria (S3, S7, BDK2', BDK7 and BDK9) identified as Enterococcus and Bacillus species showed antagonistic activity against the fish pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MTCC 4 673). These isolates were screened based on their response towards bile tolerance, pH tolerance, adhesion and drug susceptibility to different antibiotic discs. And, the in vivo results indicated improved growth and survival against the infection (P. aeruginosa) after oral administration of the probiotics. The observations of in vitro and in vivo evaluation indicatethat these isolated probiotic strains serve as effective probiotics and can be used as a novel and safe treatment to cure current issues in aquaculture. Probiotics are defined as live microorganisms that improve the health of the host when administered in adequate quantities. Nonetheless, probiotics encounter extreme environmental conditions during food processing or along the gastrointestinal tract. This review discusses different environmental stresses that affect probiotics during food preparation, storage, and along the alimentary canal, including high temperature, low temperature, low and alkaline pH, oxidative stress, high hydrostatic pressure, osmotic pressure, and starvation. The understanding of how probiotics deal with environmental stress and thrive provides useful information to guide the selection of the strains with enhanced performance in specific situations, in food processing or during gastrointestinal transit. In most cases, multiple biological functions are affected upon exposure of the cell to environmental stress. Sensing of sublethal environmental stress can allow for adaptation processes to occur, which can include alterations in the expression of specific proteins.
