In vitro interaction studies of diltiazem with H2 receptor antagonists

Abstract: Diltiazem is a well-known cardiovascular drug that is used clinically for the treatment of angina pectoris and hypertension. H 2 -receptor antagonists are used to treat gastroesophageal reflux, gastric and duodenal ulceration. In vitro interaction studies of diltiazem with H 2 -receptor antagonists (cimetidine, ranitidine, and famotidine) were investigated by using spectrophotometric and RP-HPLC techniques. The availability of diltiazem was found to be influenced considerably in presence of H 2 -receptor antag… Show more

“…12 Diltiazem is a calcium channel blocker of non-dihydropyridine type. 5 In present study, diltiazem has the property of ulcer preventing activity in diclofenac induced gastric ulcers. Different parameters in present study were used like number of gastric ulcers gives clear indication of ulcer inducing property of diclofenac and protective effect of diltiazem.…”

“…The pepsinogen activation by gastric acid activates the digestive process that kills bacteria, other microbes thus providing a stable gastric environment. 4,5 Calcium is critical for stimulus secretion coupling in gut as hypercalcaemia is associated with increased gastric acid secretion. There is calcium dependent release of Histamine, acetyl choline, gastrin and hydrochloric acid.…”

“…There are very few methods reported in literature for the simultaneous estimation of angiotensin II receptor antagonist and hydrochlorothiazide in tablets [18][19][20], though a simultaneous method for captopril and diuretics has also been developed and validated by [21]. Sultana et al (2007) have also studied the in vitro interactions of captopril H 2 -receptor antagonists [22]. However, no HPLC method for separation and simultaneous determination of enalapril and two different diuretics has been reported.…”
