In vitro antioxidant, antitumor and leishmanicidal activity of riparin A, an analog of the Amazon alkamides from Aniba riparia (Lauraceae)

Abstract: Aniba riparia (Lauraceae) is an important medicinal plant found in the Amazon region and presents alkaloids of the type alkamide known as riparins. Riparin A is structurally represented as the fundamental core of all Amazon riparins. This work aimed to assess the in vitro antioxidant, antitumor and antileishmanial effects of riparin A. Riparin A presented weak antioxidant capacity by tecniques of DPPH• (EC50 of 296.2 μg mL , respectively, after 24, 48 and 72 h of incubation). Then, in addition to its structura… Show more

“…Values of 50% effective concentration (EC 50 ) for Buriti extracts were spectrophotometrically quantified (T80+ UV/VIS Spectrometer, PG Instruments Ltd.®, Leicestershire, UK) at 515 nm for DPPH ∙ , 734 nm for ABTS ∙ + , 700 nm for potassium ferricyanide, 532 nm for TBARS (thiobarbituric acid reactive substances), and 540 nm for nitrite radicals 30 min after the reaction started. Antioxidant evaluation was performed in triplicate from two independent experiments and absorbance values were converted to the inhibition percentage (I) of radicals using the equation of [ 37 ]: (%) = [(absorbance of negative control − absorbance of sample) × 100]/absorbance of negative control, where absorbance of negative control is, for example, the initial absorbance for DPPH ∙ solution and absorbance of sample is the absorbance for reaction mixture (DPPH ∙ and sample).…”

“…The species Aniba riparia is commonly used for medicinal purposes due to its pharmacological properties, attributed to alkaloids called riparins. Besides the natural molecules of this species, there are synthetic analogues known as riparins A, B, C, D and F, which share structures similar to natural molecules [5] .…”
