In situ hybridization of five loci to cattle chromosome 1

Abstract: The genes for pituitary-specific transcription factor (PIT1), propionyl coenzyme A carboxylase, β-polypeptide (PCCB), transferrin (TF), trichohyalin (THH), and involucrin (IVL) were mapped to cattle chromosome 1 (BTA 1) by isotopic in situ hybridization. Two of the loci were mapped from cattle PCR products and three from human ATCC probes. PIT1 localized to segment 1q2; PCCB to 1q3; and TF, THH, and IVL to 1q4. These localizations agree with the homology previously shown between BTA 1 and human chromosome 3 (H… Show more

“…maps to BTA 1q4 (Schmutz et al 1998), in goats it maps to CHI 3q2.1 , and in sheep it maps to chromosome 1 in the region corresponding to CHI 3 and BTA 3. It seems more likely that the ancestor of OAR1 split in separate places to generate chromosomes 1 and 3 of cattle and goat, than that the ancestral chromosomes for CHI/BTA 1 and 3 would have fused to form OAR 1, and that the region containing the THH gene would then have moved from BTA 3 to 1.…”
