Improving the capacity and cycling-stability of Lithium–sulfur batteries using self-healing binders containing dynamic disulfide bonds

Abstract: A self-healing poly(dimethylsiloxane) polymer containing disulfide bonds is synthesized for application in lithium–sulfur batteries. The reversible breakage/formation of the disulfide bonds can capture polysulfides and accelerate their conversion.

“…Self‐healing ability, referring to the property that enables materials to automatically repair damage and restore to a normal state, has received extensive attention in various fields like biomedicine, soft robotics engineering or energy storage [32, 33] . Processing through the two‐step PHAP method, the obtained materials can combine the advantages of both functional polymers and MOFs together, which might exhibit self‐healing property.…”

“…However, there have been relatively few reports with the respect to applying the same strategy to construct binders with catalytic ability. Duan et al . designed a self‐healing poly(dimethylsiloxane) polymer with dynamic disulfide bonds as the binder (denoted as 2S‐PDMS) for sulfur electrodes (Figure c).…”
