Improving power quality and load profile using PV‐Battery‐SAPF system with metaheuristic tuning and its HIL validation

Abstract: Summary Nonlinear load results in inferior power quality and a non‐uniform power demand curve. This gets aggravated due to the charging of electric vehicles. This paper presents a new control approach of integrating a photovoltaic (PV) cell with battery storage to a shunt active power filter (SAPF) for electric vehicle (EV) applications. The multifunctional PV‐Battery‐integrated SAPF (PV‐Battery‐SAPF) performs harmonic mitigation along with clean power generation, energy storage, uniform load demand curve, and… Show more

“…Random position values are used to initialize each particle. A repetitive process is employed to obtain the optimal values of PI controller parameters [42]- [43]. PSO involves identification of two premier feature movements of particles; 1) global particle-to-particle best outcome and 2) local particle's iteration-to-iteration for best solution.…”

“…Multi‐functional GCIs are gaining significant importance because of their capabilities to compensate harmonics, reactive power, unbalance, and neutral currents along with active power injection to the distribution system. The detailed review of the state of the art on multi‐functional GCI topologies and control strategies reported in the literature have been described in detail with its contributions and the research gaps in Table 1 11‐39 . All previously mentioned research studies discussed in Table 1 demonstrated their efficacy and legitimacy.…”

“…PSO algorithm is used in this paper to solve the proposed model. In order to prove the effectiveness of PSO for the model, two other optimisation algorithms are compared here, including the niche genetic algorithm (NGA) [20] and the ant colony optimisation (ACO) [36]. Two indexes are considered for comparison, including the convergence speed and robustness.…”
