Improving Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Knowledge and Skills to Develop Health Research Capacity in Kenya

Abstract: ObjectivesInformation and communication technology (ICT) tools are increasingly important for clinical care, research, data management, international collaborations, and dissemination. Many technologies would be particularly useful for healthcare workers in resource-limited settings; however, these individuals are the least likely to utilize ICT tools, in part because they lack knowledge and skills necessary to use them. Our program aimed to train researchers in low-resource settings on using ICT tools. Methods… Show more

“…Segundo Monroe-Wise et al (2019) as TICs têm transformado a maneira como a pesquisa e os cuidados em saúde são conduzidos e os dados gerenciados, de maneira que as tecnologias tornaram-se componentes da pesquisa e da prestação de cuidados em saúde. Assim, favorecendo o desenvolvimento de competências uma vez que muitas dessas ferramentas de TIC além de permitirem a interação, estão acessíveis e disponíveis gratuitamente na internet ou como software de código aberto.…”

“…Very preliminary data suggest that the module is well received, particularly in targeted parts of the world, but active promotion to inform target users such as health care workers in primary and secondary health care centers as well as training in information and communications technology of teachers or tutors in tertiary training centers is in order [ 23 ]. The next step is to assess the learned knowledge demonstrating improving clinical performance, practice behavior, and ultimately, patient outcomes.…”

“…In this way, citizen science participation can be more open among other methodological approaches in that the citizens do not always need to be pre-selected by researchers or healthcare providers [ 41 , 42 ]. This allows for an agile model that focuses on evolving community needs rather than producing generalisable knowledge and which closely aligns with the notion of an LHS [ 39 , 43 ].…”
