Ancient medicine was sublimated into the experimental science by Hippocrates, and developed to the medical science in the Renaissance due to inspection of inside human body by anatomy. Color theory also progressed in the Renaissance, resulting in establishments of optics and spectroscopy in 17th century. The growth of medicine, optics and spectroscopy resulted in creation of the new scientiˆc ˆeld namely medical spectroscopy. Thanks to modern spectroscopic instruments developed for use to the medical ˆeld such as an endoscope, a laser microscope and a spectral camera, medical doctors can inspect lesions even inside the body and can treat the patients properly. This article deals with growth of the spectroscopy and the medicine from ancient times to the present. Applications of the spectroscopic technique to the medicine in modern times and those in the future are also described.
