Improvement of power quality parameters using modulated-unified power quality conditioner and switched-inductor boost converter by the optimization techniques for a hybrid AC/DC microgrid

Abstract: This study aims to improve the quality of operation parameters of the stand-alone hybrid microgrids (HMGs). The proposed module for the AC microgrid (ACMG) is a modulated-unified power quality conditioner (M-UPQC). Furthermore, the suggested component for the DC microgrid (DCMG) is a switched-inductor boost converter module (S-IBCM). The M-UPQC control method is based on inverter modules and the system resonant features. The aim of S-IBCM applied is to improve DC microgrid (DCMG) efficiency. In this paper, the… Show more

“…In the second section (b), by M-UPQC, the system unbalanced be improved to an acceptable level in 1 pu value. The another factor in the 'PQ' issue is harmonics which is defined as a total harmonic distortion (THD) component in electrical standards [104]. Conventional power angle control (PAC) methods lead to reactive power circulation and increased UPQC loading.…”

“…To confirm the passive voltage imbalance, after one second, the frequency set point is changed from 60 to 50 Hz and islanding is confirmed. The NDZ is very small, error ratio is low, and detection time is more with small power quality degradation [28].…”

“…In microgrids, active and passive power flters are generally used to reduce the amplitude of harmonics in the system. In the literature [8][9][10], corresponding active flter optimization design methods are proposed for diferent types of microgrids, which efectively improve the power quality of the AC busbar. Compared to the active flter, the passive flter is more suitable for scenarios with a higher power.…”
